It’s hard to show the immense expanse of Wyoming and Montana sky that is Yellowstone without just saying, “it’s big. Go see it.” I recently travelled to Big Sky country and the enduring message for me is that it’s a beautiful place.

Yellowstone (at least the relatively small part of it that we were able to see over five days of car travel) encompasses mountains, prairies, thermal features, some of the most engaging animals I’ve seen anywhere, and a general wonder and myth of the American West. Almost any picture I took there turned out well. This one was interesting because it blends the sky, mountains, general terrain, and the unique quality of light in the summer in the region.

I’d like to go back, but maybe this time it will be during a different time of the year. The goal will be to continue appreciating Yellowstone.

I was looking for a change, and I look forward to refreshing things around here with some new cutline-inspired thoughts.

When the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile comes to town, it’s important to go visit it. I’m not sure exactly why, but the sight of a 20 foot long hot dog on wheels makes me think of a time when gas didn’t cost $3+ a gallon, and America was a bit more … silly.

Or perhaps sometimes a banana is just a banana. Either way, it was neat to see one of these.

Apparently, they were first created in 1936.

Our orb-weavers are active again. This is a good example of their work, on the gazebo on the deck. On a foggy morning, it’s easy to see the strands flecked with dew. On other mornings, it’s easy to walk right through and get a mouthful of spider web. Yuch. ;)
